Colombo: The situation in Sri Lanka is getting worse as the protestors breach Prime Minister’s office and are defiant amid tear gas shells. The protesters stormed and surrounded the corporation premises and the engineers of Sri Lanka’s state owned channel ‘The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation(SLRC) have suspended their telecast . The protesters demanded to telecast only the news related to anti government protests and so, the channel suspended transmission.
Meanwhile Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled to Maldives. According to the air force officials, Gotabaya with his wife and two security officers, flew out in an army flight. It is reported that Gotabaya will move to Singapore soon. The speaker informed that Gotabaya will resign today itself and the new President will be elected on 20 July. The speaker also told that he had a telephonic conversation with Gotabaya and the latter promised to quit,
As per the reports, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as acting president. Mass protests broke out in the county against Gotabaya,. Though state of emergency has been imposed, people stormed into the house of the PM and continued protest.
