Colombo: Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned. He handed over his resignation to the Speaker Mahinda Abeywardena through an e-mail. The speaker confirmed the resignation and informed that he has been evaluating the legal aspects of the letter.
Soon after the news of the resignation came out, the protestors started their celebrations at Colombo. They said that the resignation is the victory of the people.
The opposition has welcomed his resignation and said that an all party government will come soon and find a solution to the anarchy that persisting in the nation.
The Maldives parliament speaker Muhammad Nasheed, who paved way for Rajapaksa to escape, has already informed the latter’s resignation.
As per reports, Rajapaksa is currently in Singapore.
