Colombo: Reports say that India offered huge support to Sri Lanka that has been facing a political and financial crisis. As clarified in the records of Sri Lankan Ministry of finance, India has provided 376.9 million dollars to Sri Lanka during the month of 2022 January to April while China has given only 67.9 million dollars.
ADB has given 359.6 million dollars and World Bank issued 67.3 million dollars.
With India, Sri Lanka signed 39 percent of its loan agreements. Another 37 percent agreement has been signed with ADB and only 7 percent with China.
The Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka has said that India will continue providing assistance as long as democracy prevails in Sri Lanka and added that it is India’s responsibility to ensure the security of the neighbours and the nation’s foreign policy is developed on that basis.
