Colombo: Dinesh Gunawardena has sworn in as the new PM of Sri Lanka. The function was held in the presence of the President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the PMs Office in Colombo.
There are indications that the government has plans to make an all-party Government with the cooperation of the opposition. But the opposition is yet to be given a positive nod to this decision. The senior leaders have asked for the cooperation of the opposition to overcome the financial and economic crisis that is prevailing in the country.
The opposition leader Sajith Premadasa had assured the collaboration with the Government to solve the nation’s crisis. The opposition MP Eran Wickramaratne had said that they will support the parliamentary proceedings which aim to support the national interests.
Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga congratulated Ranil Wickremesinghe who took over the position of the President last day.
Dinesh Gunawardena is a political leader with extensive political experience. He was a member in the parliament during 1983.
He had handled the departments of Transport, Environment, Urban Development, Irrigation, Higher Education, External Affairs, Skill Development, Public Administration, Home and Local Government in the previous assemblies.
He had served as the Government Chief Whip and MEP Parliamentary Party Leader.
