Earthquake in China; Death toll rose to 46

Beijing: The death toll has risen to 46 after a strong earthquake hit Luding County in southwest China’s Sichuan province. About 50 people were seriously injured. There are reports that the death toll may rise. The earthquake struck the region around 12:25 pm local time.

Of the dead, 29 were from Luding County, and 17 were from Yan City. Reports say that the people of the region are not getting basic facilities. All basic facilities like water, electricity and transport have been disrupted.

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his condolences over the tragedy. He has also called for strengthening the rescue operations in the region. At the same time, the Indian Embassy in China tweeted its condolences to the victims of the earthquake.
