Beijing: China has created the world’s first arctic wolf by cloning. The Arctic Wolf was successfully cloned by China-based Sinogen Biotechnology. This arctic wolf is named Maya. A video of Maya born in a lab in Beijing has also been released. After 100 days of birth, Maya’s video was released by the lab authorities.
Global Times reported that Maya’s health condition is fine. Maya’s donor sample was obtained from a wild female arctic wolf. Female beagle ovaries were used. More than 80 embryos were transferred for cloning. Maya was born from one among these.
The scientists say that the dog was used instead of the wolf because of the genetic inheritance between dogs and wolves and the possibility of successful cloning. The report also says that Maya will be exhibited in front of the public within a few days. Scientists also say that cloning is very effective in endangered animals.
