Colombo: Sri Lankan Cricket board informed that player Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been suspended. Cricket board also informed that he has been removed from all tournaments. The decision has been taken in the background of a sexual molestation case against the 31 year old cricketer who got arrested from Australia.
The Sydney Court had also rejected his bail application and this accelerated his suspension. The Sri Lankan team also announced that they will give all possible support to the investigation team on this matter. The authorities informed that they will take appropriate decisions if the court found him as accused.
“The decision of the cricket board is to not tolerate such allegations. Australian police will get all support to continue the investigation”. Informed the Sri Lankan cricket board.
Police arrested Gunathilaka for molesting a 29 year old woman who met him through a dating application. The incident took place in the midst of the T20 World Cup in Australia. The player was arrested from a hotel at Central Business District in Sydney.
In the complaint the woman said that the molestation took place while meeting Gunathilaka at the residence in Rose Bey. Police had searched the location on the basis of her statement and arrested the player, informed the New South Wale police.
