Katmandu: Tens of thousands of devotees reached in Nepal for the famous Bala chathurdasi celebration. People come in large numbers this time as they could not reach the temple last two consecutive years due to corona pandemic and restrictions. Pasupathinatha temple experienced an unprecedented rush as people from India as well as Bhutan throng the shrine, situated at the banks of Bhagmathy river.
Bala chathurdasi celebration is an occassion to recall the ancestors. Devotees offer prayers for the departed members of their families. The ritual includes floating oil lamps and flowers into the river. People observe fasting and take bath at the Bhagmathy river. They chant hymns and prayers for their departed ancestors. Pithrupooja, the offering for the departed soul is done after taking bath at the river and praying at the Pashupathynatha temple.
