Jakarta: Death toll crossed 250 in the deadly earthquake that took place last day at Java in Indonesia. More than 1000 people were injured in the calamity that marked 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. The figures say that around 2.5 lakh people are affected by the earthquake.
The West Java Governor stated that the majority of the people killed in the incident are found to be Madrassa students who went to study religion after leaving school. Around 400 buildings collapsed.
Authorities informed people to come out of the collapsed buildings. There is also a risk of landslides due to the possibility of heavy rains.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is deeply saddened by the incident. The PM also tweeted the nation’s readiness to stand with Indonesia at its most needed time. The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed his grief over the incident.
