New York: Considering the demand to change the name of the monkeypox virus, the World Health Organisation has take the decision to rename monkeypox virus as MPOX. The nomenclature came in the wake of pressure from several countries including the United States. ‘Politico’, the newspaper, reported the decision of WHO.
The World Health Organisation has recently announced that monkeypox continues to meet the International Health Regulations criteria for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
Monkeypox has been reported from various parts of the world since May 2022. Over 30,000 cases were reported from America alone. Most of the people confirmed the disease after travelling in Europe and North America. Monkeypox was spreading fast in men who had sexual contact with men. Monkeypox has been confirmed in India too. The latest report says the spread of the disease is tapering.
