Sao Paulo: Iconic Brazilian footballer Pele widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and the only player to have won the FIFA World Cup thrice has died at Albert Einstein Hospital, Sao Paulo. He has been in treatment for intestine cancer for more than one month.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, was born on October 23, 1940, at Tres Coracoes, in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais. Father- Jovo Romos do Nascimento Doneenjya, mother- Celeste Arantus. He is the only man to have won the World Cup three times-in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He had also scored 77 goals in 92 matches for the national team. Heroic star of Brazil’s Santos, Pele, scored 643 goals in 659 matches for the club. FIFA selected Pele and Maradona as the best football players of the 20th century.
