London: In a move that could lead to the eventual extradition of Punjab National Bank scam accused Nirav Modi, the London Westminster court has issued an arrest warrant against him said sources in the Enforcement Department.
The court has also ordered the diamond merchant to appear in court on the 25th of this Month.
The arrest warrant comes after international media reported his presence in London, living in a posh uptown apartment in the city.
After he was spotted at London, the Ministry of External Affairs, spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had told that the Ministry was aware of his presence in the United Kingdom and that is why India had sent an extradition request last August.
He said that India is making strong efforts to bring back Nirav Modi and was waiting for UK’s response on India’s extradition request.
The arrest warrant can be seen as the first step in the complex process of bringing back the diamond merchant to India to face trial in the country.
Nirav Modi is the main accused in the Rs. 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank fraud.
