A series of earthquakes rocked Afghanistan, claiming the lives of over 2,000 people. It struck 12 villages, causing widespread injuries and leaving a trail of destruction with 600 houses in ruins.
The event unfolded with a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake hitting Herat, a border region of Afghanistan, just a day ago. Following this initial quake, the region experienced a barrage of eight strong aftershocks, compounding the already terrible situation. Subsequent earthquakes have been reported in villages situated 30 km away from Herat, further intensifying the crisis.
Rescue operations led by local and international agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), are currently underway. Despite these efforts, the WHO has cautioned that the death toll is likely to rise.
