Jerusalem: The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that the ongoing conflict with Hamas terrorists has resulted in the loss of 700 lives and left around 23,000 individuals seriously injured. IDF spokesperson Major Libby Weiss described it as the most devastating incident in Israel’s history.
“The situation is so dire that we have never witnessed or heard of anything like it before,” Major Libby Weiss stated on Monday night.
“What we witnessed two days ago is the worst massacre of Israeli civilians in Israel’s history… The horrors we have witnessed are almost beyond words,” the IDF spokesperson added.
Major Weiss made these remarks during a virtual press conference on Monday night (IST), attended by Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen and Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lior Haiat.
She also criticized Iran for its support of Hamas and its involvement in the actions of the group.
“We are aware that Iran has historically been a strong supporter of Hamas… Naturally, we believe that Iran plays a role in Hamas’s actions,” she commented.
“We cannot, at this stage, divulge too much about IDF plans or similar matters… Our commitment is unwavering, and we are dedicated to bringing the hostages home, regardless of their country of origin,” Major Weiss stated.
Dozens of Israelis are being held captive by Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza, including ordinary citizens, women, the elderly, infants, and disabled individuals who have been taken hostage. They were paraded through the streets of Gaza, and there have been reports of widespread torture. Israel has responded forcefully, mobilizing 300,000 troops in the past 48 hours as part of its retaliation against Hamas.
