New York: In a special ceremony at the headquarters of the United Nations, a plaque bearing the Bharatiya Darshan of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ was unveiled on Wednesday. The prestigious event was presided over by Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj.
It symbolizes Bharat’s commitment to tolerance and co-existence in a world grappling with disunity. Members of the Bharat Community at the United Nations participated in the ceremony. ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ translated as ‘The World is One Family,’ serves as Bharat’s guiding principle towards realizing the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations for 2030. The concept epitomizes the idea of ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future,’ reflecting Bharat’s dedication to fostering unity and collaboration in the face of global challenges.
Addressing the gathering, United Nations President Dennis Francis emphasized the relevance of the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in these challenging times. He underscored the imperative nature of the idea that the world is one family, stating that it is precisely what is needed in the contemporary world.
The unveiling ceremony was accompanied by an international conference on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, providing a platform for discussions on promoting global unity, cooperation, and understanding. As the plaque stands as a Bhartiya symbol of tolerance, its presence at the United Nations headquarters is expected to serve as a constant reminder of the shared responsibility to work towards a harmonious world.
