Washington: U.S. President Joe Biden is set to visit Israel to express his direct support for the Jewish state in its battle against terrorism, as confirmed by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The visit is taking place during a critical period in Israel’s struggle against the terrorist group Hamas.
During a press conference, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the significance of President Biden’s visit, stating, ‘President Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday. He is coming here at a critical moment for Israel, for the region, and for the world. President Biden will reaffirm the United States’ solidarity with Israel.’
Furthermore, Blinken emphasized that Israel has the right to defend its people from the attacks of Hamas and other terrorists, saying, ‘President Biden will make it clear, as he has done unequivocally since Hamas’s actions resulted in the loss of more than 1,400 lives, including at least 30 Americans, that Israel has both the right and the duty to defend its people from Hamas and other terrorists and to prevent future attacks.’ He also mentioned President Biden’s commitment to working closely with Israeli partners to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and the development of a plan for aid to Gaza.
In parallel, the Israeli army is making preparations for a potential ground incursion into Gaza. They had previously issued warnings for residents to relocate to southern Gaza. However, the U.S. has advised Israel against occupying Gaza.
