Tel Aviv: US President Joe Biden arrived in Tel Aviv on Wednesday to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amidst the 12th day of conflict with the Hamas terror group. President Biden was received by PM Netanyahu and President Issac Herzog on the tarmac without any usual formalities, such as greetings by the full Israeli cabinet and religious leaders. The visit came amid a tragic explosion at a hospital in Gaza, claiming numerous lives.
John Kirby, the National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, revealed that President Joe Biden is set to engage in discussions with leaders in Israel with a focus on ensuring humanitarian support reaches Gaza. A conversation between President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to take place shortly.
Kirby further stated that the President intends to discuss with local leaders how to facilitate the safe return of detainees to their homes, emphasising an energetic approach to prevent the escalation of issues in the region.
Israeli Defence Forces have tightened security in Tel Aviv in preparation for the president’s visit. Roads were closed, and additional security personnel were deployed ahead of Biden’s departure from Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Maryland.
President Biden’s primary focus involves discussions with Israeli leaders on strategies against Hamas terrorists. Stressing unwavering US support, Biden aims to address measures for rescuing individuals, including American citizens, held hostage by Hamas.
In a press conference, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored the significance of President Biden’s visit to Israel, highlighting that it serves as a reaffirmation of unwavering US solidarity with Israel.
