Sri Lankan Prime Minister congratulates Narendra Modi before the official announcement of election results

Colombo: A big win for Narendra Modi is what the world was expecting and it has happened. Sri Lankan Prime Minister has already congratulated Narendra Modi for his victory even before the election results are announced officially by the Election Commissioner.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a tweet said, “Congratulations to @narendramodi on a magnificent victory! We look forward to working closely with you.”

Counting to the 17th Lok Sabha is underway across the country and the BJP-led NDA is leading in 346 seats with the Congress-led UPA trailing far behind with 86 seats.

The BJP on its own is leading in 288 seats which is more number of seats that BJP won by itself in 2014. The Indian National Congress is leading in only 80 seats.

If the NDA bags all the seats that it is leading now, then it would be the first time in 40 years that a government is returning to power with a overall large majority in the Parliament.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s tweet congratulating Narendra Modi before the results are out shows the expectations that other countries have in Modi. India extended a strong arm of support to Sri Lanka when it was devastated by the recent terrorist bombings.

Though Indian intelligence agencies had given timely warning to the island nation, they failed to act upon it. However, India is now closely working with the Sri Lankan security agencies to bring down the threat of Islamic terrorism in South Asia.

The country’s top leadership knows that only a strong leader like Narendra Modi could bring peace and prosperity to the region.
