London: In a tearful adieu, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, has announced that she will step down from the top job in the country.
In front of her residence in 10 Downing Street, she said that she will step down as the leader of the Conservative Party leader on Friday 7 June. Thereafter in the coming weeks the party will decide on who will lead the Conservatives in future.
May has agreed to continue as the PM till another leader is chosen to replace her. She said she has already informed the Queen about her decision.
Her resignation comes after she failed to deliver on Brexit, a decision to leave the European Union to protect jobs and economy of Britain.
The resignation of Theresa May will lead to a tug-off war for leadership in the party. She wished the future leader her best wishes to negotiate a deal with all the concerned party for the Brexit to become a reality. She said that everyone involved must show compromise for a breakthrough in the discussions.
Theresa May was the second female to hold the post of Prime Minister in the United Kingdom.
