New Delhi: Houthi rebels launched ballistic missile strikes on American and British cargo vessels in the Red Sea. The rebel group claimed responsibility for the attack, which saw missiles fired at multiple ships, including one headed for India.
The initial strike targeted the ‘Star Nasia,’ a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel identified as Greek-owned by US military sources. The vessel sustained damage from one missile, while a second missile narrowly missed its mark. A third missile aimed at the ship was intercepted by a US warship.
In a subsequent attack, the ‘Morning Tide,’ a Barbados-flagged cargo ship under British ownership, came under fire. Although no damage was reported, the incident underscores the escalating threat posed by Houthi militants in the region.
The Houthis, an Iranian-backed rebel faction in Yemen, announced plans to continue targeting American and British vessels and crews. They have expressed solidarity with Hamas in the Israel-Hamas conflict, stating their objective to remove the Israeli army entirely from Gaza.
