Cairo: Houthi rebels in Yemen launched an attack on two US warships navigating the Red Sea. Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthi rebel group, disclosed details of the military operation, asserting that multiple missiles and drones were deployed against the warships.
Despite Houthi’s announcement, the United States has remained silent regarding the attack. However, the surge in Houthi assaults in the Red Sea has disrupted international maritime traffic. Many companies are now compelled to opt for the longer and costlier sea route around South Africa instead of the shorter navigable route.
Following the Red Sea attack, both the United States and Britain issued stern warnings to the Houthi faction. Nevertheless, the rebels continue to target vessels traversing the Red Sea. This pattern of aggression began in mid-November, with Houthi rebels pledging solidarity with Hamas and initiating attacks on ships traversing the route.
