Baghdad: An Iraqi military base came under attack after seven mortar bombs struck it injuring four soldiers. However, no casualties were reported.
The attack occurred at the Balad Air Base located 80 km north of Baghdad. The base was hosting US troops and all the injured were Iraqis. The majority US personnel who were stationed at the base had left following rise in tensions with Iran.
The attack comes after heightened tensions between US and Iran following the killing of top Iranian commander General Qassem Soleimani. There was an Iranian retaliatory attack at the US Embassy in Iraq.
Though, the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayattollah Ali Khameni vowed of severe revenge, the attack so far has been low scale. Many military experts say that the attacks deliberately have avoided deaths of US soldiers.
