The photo showcased a couple of new faces, with Ruturaj Gaikwad being presented as the new captain of CSK, while Jitesh Sharma was depicted as the vice-captain of the Punjab Kings.
CSK fans took to Twitter to express their support and appreciation for the decision made by the team management to appoint Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new captain. Many fans also expressed their emotions regarding the end of MS Dhoni’s tenure as captain.
MS Dhoni, who has led the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, remains an iconic figure in the team’s history. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK clinched the IPL trophy last year by defeating the Gujarat Titans for five wickets. Dhoni was also called as ‘Thala’ by his fans and critics as well. Dhoni has long been recognised as the backbone of CSK’s success.
Prior to the 2022 IPL season, Dhoni had expressed his willingness to step down as captain. Ravindra Jadeja temporarily led the team in Dhoni’s absence. However, the management urged Dhoni to reconsider his decision as the team’s performance continued to decline. Speculations about the presence of the 42-year-old in the IPL have been spread since early.
Ruturaj Gaikwad played a pivotal role in Chennai’s resurgence during the 2023 season, amassing 590 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a part of the Chennai team since 2019, having played 52 matches for the franchise thus far.
