Mumbai: The Indian women’s cricket team secured a monumental Test victory against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium. This significant win created history as the Indian women’s cricket team has achieved ten Test victories over Australia. Following their recent success against England, the Indian women’s team clinched victory against Australia by eight wickets.
This match marks the first Test series between Bharat and Australia on Indian soil since 1984. The Indian team successfully chased down the target of 75 runs in the second inning within 18.4 overs. Smriti Mandhana emerged as Bharat’s top scorer by hitting 38 runs.
Earlier, Australia, having won the toss and elected to bat, posted a first-innings total of 219 runs before being bowled out. Pooja Vastrakar claimed four wickets, while Sneha Rana contributed three wickets for Bharat. Tahlia McGrath was the top scorer for Australia in their first inning.
In response, the Indian women’s team made a solid start, with openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana developing a 114-run partnership by scoring 40 and 74 runs subsequently. Half-centuries from Richa Ghosh (52), Jemima Rodrigues (73), and Deepti Sharma (78 off 171 balls), along with Pooja Vastrakar’s 47, propelled the Indian Women to a commanding total of 406 runs in the first innings, securing a lead of 187 runs.
Facing a target of 75 runs in the second inning, Australia faltered as they were dismissed for an additional 28 runs. Sneha Rana, who claimed four wickets, along with Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Harmanpreet Kaur, who each took two wickets, played crucial roles in dismantling the Australian lineup.
Entering the second inning with a target of 75 runs, Bharat faced some early setbacks, losing the wickets of Shafali Verma (4) and Richa Ghosh (13). However, Smriti Mandhana (38*) and Jemima Rodrigues (12*) remained unbeaten, propelling Bharat to a historic Test victory.
