Manchester: India continued its winning streak today defeating the West Indies by 125 runs with a loss of 7 wickets. While India scored 268 runs in 50 overs, West Indies lost all its wickets in 34.2 overs scoring only 143 runs.
India chose to bat after winning the toss. The team faced an initial shock after Rohit Sharma was out after taking 29 runs. However, the partnership of Rahul and Kohli added 69 runs before Rahul fell just 2 runs short of a half century. Vijay Shankar also returned to the pavilion quickly after scoring just 14 runs.
It was a historic moment for Kohli when he became the third batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara to score 20,000 in the shortest time. Kohli scored 72 runs on 82 balls before he fell.
Dhoni scored 56 runs and remained on the pitch while Hardik Pandey scored 45 runs.
West Indies began their innings with a huge disappointment as Chris Gayle’s was retired after scoring just 6 runs. Sunil Ambrose became the highest West Indian scorer in the match after he took 31 runs. Nicholas and Hetmayer struggled to keep the West Indian hope going.
India bowlers were at their best in today’s match. Muhammad Shami got 4 wickets to his kitty. He took the 4 wickets while giving up only 16 runs. Jaspreet Bumrah did not yield much runs to the West Indies. He knocked down 2 wickets after giving only 9 runs.
With this victory India has climbed to the second spot on the score board just below Australia. On 30 June, India will face host England.
