London: India was back to its winning streak after defeating the Sri Lankans by 7 wickets at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds today. Rohit Sharma scored his 5th century this world cup and broke the record of Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 4 centuries in a single world cup.
Sri Lanka chose to bat after winning the toss. Four of their wickets fell during the initial phase of the innings. However, they were spared of a complete defeat with the help of a century scored by Mathews. They could only score 264 runs in 50 overs and lost 7 wickets.
India opened her innings to a brilliant start. Rohit Sharma and K. L. Rahul went on to score 189 run partnership, the first by opening batsmen of India. Rahul also went on to score century to seal the win for India. Virat Kohli took 34 runs from 41 balls and remained on the crease.
India won the league stage with 15 points.
