Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of widespread rain all over Kerala. Cyclone Biparjoy in the Arabian Sea is set to intensify in the next few hours. Cyclone Biparjoy, moving in the northern direction, is likely to move towards the coasts of Karachi or Oman. The cyclonic storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. “Deep depression intensified into cyclonic storm Biparjoy over eastcentral Arabian Sea at 17:30 hrs IST. To move nearly northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours”, IMD informed.

Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha are on yellow alert today. Fishing is also banned on the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep due to the possibility of bad weather. A warning has also been issued to the ports on the Kerala coast.

The Met Office also predicted widespread thunder, lightning, and windy rain in Kerala for the next five days. There is a possibility of heavy rain in isolated places from June 7 to 10. The Biparjoy cyclone plays a crucial role in providing monsoons to Kerala.
