New Delhi: Indian senior football team head coach, Igor Stimac, made a fervent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday, requesting permission for the national football team to participate in the upcoming Asian Games in China. Stimac requested amid reports that India may not send its football teams to the prestigious event, which is scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 this year.
Stimac’s request holds significant weight as he recognises the importance of India’s participation in the Asian Games. The Indian football team has a rich history in the tournament, having won two gold medals in 1951 and 1962, as well as a bronze medal in 1970. The event offers a valuable platform for Indian footballers to showcase their talent on the continental stage and compete against some of the best teams in Asia.
