The Covid 19 pandemic has swamped nations across the world with devastating consequences. The virus has swamped every other nation, killing millions of people, rendering long term damage to the health of others and also most importantly exposing how every nation, both developing and developed, was unprepared in responding to the pandemic.
It was the overwhelming nature of the Second Wave that tested the ability of the human spirit to stand up to the virus that was mutating fast and furious – testing the not so good medical infrastructure in our country. From shortage of medical oxygen, to grossly inadequate ICU beds, manpower found wanting across hospitals, critical medicines being sold in black-market, everything that could go wrong, went wrong.
It’s to be appreciated that both the Union and State governments recouped the lost ground, bringing a method into the madness. Oxygen supplies were ramped up with support from industry, railways, Armed forces pitching in by bringing in supplies including Oxygen Tanks, Cylinders and life-saving drugs from across the country and abroad. The number of cases are on a decline now, but we cannot afford to be complacent. Because, experts are predicting a third wave in the next few weeks.
How well prepared are we to take on the third wave? Is our medical infrastructure adequate to take the surge of new cases, if it happens? Is the government confident that they can handle the third wave, if and when it happens? How is our education system going to safeguard students from the virus, when they open up? What are the measures against the third wave being put in place by the business sector as we unlock in the next few weeks? There are a lot more questions that are coming our way.
