The Rajya Sabha was informed by the Government that blocking of borders by agitating farmers is causing inconvenience to residents of Delhi and neighbouring states.
Hundreds of farmers are protesting on the Delhi-Meerut highway in Ghazipur. The number of protesters increased at Ghazipur border as farmers started joining the protest from western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand.
Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said, “The Delhi Police has informed that Ghazipur, Chilla, Tikri and Singhu borders of the national capital are blocked by agitating farmers and it is inconvenient to the residents of Delhi and neighbouring states. In any agitation, there is financial loss incurred by people and government.”
Kishan Reddy added that social distancing was not being followed by the farmers and protesters as they are gathering in large numbers without face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.
