The Delhi High Court on Thursday said the government has been doing everything to control the impact of the virus while declining to entertain a petition seeking direction to the Delhi government to concentrate on containing the raging second wave of COVID-19 and threat of new variants.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha observed that everything is being done by the government, maintaining masking guidelines, social distancing and people are getting vaccinations.

“The prayers stated herein are all general prayers, what else do you want the government to do?”, the bench asked the petitioner lawyer Rakesh Malhotra.

The petitioner pointed out the careless attitude of the people at local markets and public spaces like malls, restaurants, and cafes as there is a huge rush flouting social distancing. Many are not wearing face masks, the plea said seeking appropriate directions.

The plea also contended the possible spread of Coronavirus in the court premises as physical hearings started from March 15.

It further sought to continue virtual hearings as there is a risk of Covid-19 spread when the prisoners are taken to courts and meeting with their relatives and others during the time.
