Ministry of Power has written to all the states and union territories that mass vaccination camps be organized for all the power sector employees on priority in coordination with utilities and state health department.

Power Secretary in a letter to the chief secretaries of states and administrators of union territories has written that power sector personnel in generation, transmission, and distribution have put their best foot forward in ensuring the continuous flow of power in the national grid, and homes remain lit up and all the emergency services continue uninterrupted. The power secretary has requested the states and union territories to arrange and facilitate special vaccination drive for power sector employees.

V K Gupta spokesperson All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF ) said on Tuesday that the federation had written letters to Prime Minister and Power Minister on 18th April that all the power sector engineers and employees should be treated as frontline workers amid the pandemic.

The functioning of hospitals and testing laboratories is largely dependent upon the round-the-clock supply, and power engineers and the technical staff of Discoms play a major role in the fight against COVID-19.

Mr Gupta further said that the services of power sector employees who ensure that power remains on during the pandemic have gone unnoticed, unrecognized, and taken for granted because they keep the power flowing. Now power Ministry has atleast acknowledged the role of power sector engineers and employees during pandemics.
