Idukki: Red alert has been announced in Idukki dam as the water level has risen. Emergency planning manager announced the alert as third warning as releasing the excess water through spillway. The people who live on the bank of river Periyar should be more vigilant, informed the authorities.
Water level is rising in the Idukki Dam. At present it is 2382.53 feet. Just a one feet away from the maximum storable water level. The water flowing from Mullaperiyar is the main reason behind this. It is informed that the shutters of the Idukki dam will only open after considering the water level in Aluva and Periyar banks.
High alert has been issued in coastal areas of Periyar. The water level is lower from the warning level for the time being in coastal areas of Periyar. The dam was opened three times last year.
If the water level rises the shutter will be again opened and the excess water will flow into Periyar.
