Pathanamthitta: Akhil Sajeev, the main accused in the recruitment scam centred around the health minister’s office, has been arrested in Theni, Tamil Nadu. A specialised team from the Pathanamthitta police had arrested him. Akhil’s arrest is linked to a case surrounded to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) office.
According to the police, Raheez had created a fake appointment order under the name of Arogya Keralam, and Akhil and Raheez had created the corresponding email ID. Interrogations are ongoing, and further details will be disclosed in due course.
Criticism had arisen due to Akhil’s delayed arrest, even days after the case was filed. After this, the police arrested him. The information received is that the accused, currently in the custody of Pathanamthitta police, will be handed over to the Cantonment police. In a related development, Lenin Raj, another accused in the recruitment fraud case, submitted an anticipatory bail application in the Sessions Court yesterday.
Akhil Sajeev, a former leader of the CITU has been arrested in connection with recruitment fraud case. This arrest has brought to light Akhil Sajeev’s alleged involvement in multiple fraudulent activities. The case gained public attention when the complainant Haridasan Kummoli , claimed that he had paid Rs. 1.75 lakh to Akhil Sajeev and Akhil Mathew, a personal assistant to the health minister as a bribe to secure a job for his daughter-in-law. However, a thorough investigation conducted by the minister’s office has exempted Akhil Mathew from any involvement in the fraud.
Last day, the police confirmed that fraudulent activities had transpired in Kottayam under Akhil Sajeev’s leadership. Crucial evidence was obtained by examining WhatsApp messages belonging to Raheez, who had also been arrested in connection with the case. The scam revolved around offering a security job at Kottayam Medical College. Raheez revealed this information during interrogation conducted by the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police.
