Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of a cyclone forming off the coasts of Karnataka, rain will intensify in Kerala, prompting authorities to issue a yellow alert in five districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of thunderstorms and lightning in the coming days, coupled with the potential for high waves and sea storms along the Kerala coast. A yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts, signaling the need for heightened caution among residents.
According to the IMD, there’s a chance of continuous rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. In anticipation of heavy rains, the authorities have imposed restrictions on fishing activities to ensure the safety of coastal communities.
High Waves and Storm Surge Warning
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) issued a warning of 0.5 to 1.8 meters of high waves and storm surges along the Kerala coast until 11.30 p.m. today. Similar advisories are in effect for the South Tamil Nadu coast, urging fishermen and coastal residents to exercise extreme caution.
1. As sea turbulence is expected to intensify, obey the authorities’ instructions and stay away from identified danger areas.
2. Avoid beach trips and sea-related activities to prevent unnecessary risks.
3. Mooring fishing boats securely in harbors and maintaining a safe distance between boats can minimize the risk of collisions. Ensure the safety of fishing equipment.
