Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in Kerala for the next five days. As a result of this forecast, a yellow alert has been declared today in eight districts, including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad.
Moreover, heavy rain is expected at isolated locations in the state from October 22nd to the 25th. Kerala’s rainfall has intensified following the onset of the Libra monsoon, influenced by Cyclone Tej’s formation in the Arabian Sea. The IMD reported yesterday that Cyclone Tej has developed into a severe cyclone over the Southwest Arabian Sea.
The IMD predicts that ‘Tej’ will further intensify today and gain strength. In light of this, a yellow alert has been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts today (October 22) and tomorrow (October 23). On the 24th, a yellow alert will be in effect for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. On the 25th, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts will also be under a yellow alert.
Given the yellow alert in Kerala in the coming days, heavy rainfall is expected. Therefore, residents in hilly and coastal areas are strongly advised to exercise extra caution.
