Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Health Ministry has raised an alarm as COVID-19 cases witness a significant surge, with Kerala being the hardest hit state. Yesterday alone, 266 new cases were reported, pushing the total infected tally in the state to 2,782.
According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, Bharat experienced a single-day spike of 752 coronavirus infections, marking the highest since May 21, 2023. The active cases nationwide have surged to 3,420. As concerns mount over a new variant of the virus, former World Health Organization (WHO) chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan reassures the public that there is no need for immediate panic. She emphasizes that the variant is currently classified as one of interest rather than concern. However, Dr. Swaminathan advises people to exercise caution and adhere to proper precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus.
