Ernakulam: A complaint has been lodged against CPI leader P Raju and his associates in Ernakulam, accusing them of extorting Rs 45 lakh under the guise of a vegetable trade partnership. Ahmed Razeen, a resident of Kodungallur, filed the complaint with the Palarivattom police after allegedly not receiving the promised capital investment and profits from the business venture.
According to the complaint, P Raju and his friends, including Driver Dhaneesh, Vithul Sankar, and C V Sai, convinced Razeen that he could be a profitable partner in the vegetable trade. They claimed that the CPI’s influence over Horticorp, which controls the state’s Agriculture Department, would ensure swift transactions. The accused allegedly persuaded Razeen that importing vegetables from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka would yield substantial profits.
According to Razeen, he initially met P Raju at the CPI office two years ago, following Dhaneesh’s recommendation. P Raju assured Razeen that selling vegetables to Horticorp would yield significant profits without delays, given the CPI’s administrative influence.
Razeen claims to have paid Rs 62 lakh to P Raju and his associates for the purported business venture, with Rs 17 lakh being recovered. However, the remaining Rs 45 lakh went unpaid. After investigating the matter, Razeen discovered that P Raju had received funds from Horticorp and had purchased a car worth Rs 15 lakh with the invested money. Ahmed Razeen filed a complaint with the Palarivattom police, implicating CPI Ernakulam district secretary P Raju, driver Dhaneesh, Vithul Sankar, and C V Sai in the alleged extortion of money, while P Raju denies any knowledge of the complainant’s allegations.
