New Delhi: The Drugs Controller General of India on Sunday gave the green signal to the vaccines developed by Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute for emergency restricted use.
The ‘Covishield’ is developed by the Serum Institute of India together with the Oxford/AstraZeneca, says it is producing more than 50 million doses a month.
Meanwhile the DCGI quelled impotency rumors surrounding the vaccines and called the vaccine 110 per cent safe for use. “We will never approve anything if there is even the slightest safety concern. Vaccines are 110 per cent safe. Some side effects like mild fever, pain and allergy are common for every vaccine. It (rumors of impotency) is complete nonsense”, said DCGI.
The rumors about the safety of the vaccine came on board after Samajwadi party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had said, “Covid19 vaccine might contain something, which can cause some harm. Tomorrow, people will say the vaccine was given to kill or decrease the population. You can even become impotent, anything can happen”.
On Saturday, the government had held nationwide dry runs as part of the vaccination process.
