Lockdown in Puducherry extended till Jun 14 with more relaxations

The lockdown with relaxations which is in force in the Union Territory to contain the spread of COVID-19 was extended till June 14 with more relaxations.

As per the government order issued in this regard late on Monday night, all shops including liquor shops, arrack and toddy shops were permitted to open from 9 AM to 5 PM from Tuesday.

Taxis, autorickshaws and buses can ply and the beach was opened for the public. Private firms will be allowed to function with 50 percent staff from 9 AM to 6 PM.

However, parks, cinema theatres, museum, libraries and places of entertainment and political events were not allowed to function.

Hotels will be permitted to function for parcel service only. People are allowed to walk on the beach from 5 AM to 9 AM by wearing masks.

About 25 persons will be allowed to take part in marriages and 20 persons in funeral functions.

All other services will function as permitted earlier and all will have to follow Covid protocol. The night curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM the next day will continue. Strict action will be initiated against the violators, the Order said.

Meanwhile, long queues were witnessed in front of several liquor shops from early this morning and barricades were erected by the liquor shop owners to prevent the crowd and make them follow the Covid protocol.

Deputy Collector (Excise ) T Sudhakar inspected several liquor shops to find out whether the protocol is being followed.
