Tokyo: Japan is all set to host world leaders for the G7 summit. The city of Hiroshima is all decked out to welcome them, as the summit is scheduled to take place on May 20 and 21. PM Modi will leave for Hiroshima on May 19 and will remain in Japan until May 21.
The Prime Minister is visiting Japan as per the invitation of the Japanese PM, Fumio Kishida. The PM is expected to speak on issues like peace, stability, fertilizer, food, and energy security among the other members involved in the G7 summit. He will also hold bilateral meetings with other leaders attending the summit.
Leaders from Japan, Italy, Canada, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the European Union will also attend the summit. The EU will be represented at the G7 meeting by Charles Michel, President of the European Council.
US President Joe Biden has arrived in Japan for the G7 summit. As per reports, it is expected that Biden will conduct talks in Japan as part of the effort to increase pressure on Russia to end their war with Ukraine and to express concerns about China’s increasing power and influence.
Reportedly, Biden has already started his talks with the Japanese Prime Minister even before the three-day summit. After the summit ends on May 21, Biden is expected to return to Washington to deal with the current debt crisis in the US.
The postponement of President Biden’s earlier plans to visit Papua New Guinea and Australia led to the cancellation of the Quad Summit in Sydney. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit both countries and is expected to have a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
