Bengaluru: In a hint that the Congress government is planning to review the stringent Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2020 passed by BJP government, the Animal Husbandry Minister, asked if buffalos can be slaughtered why not cows, said a report.
The question was raised by Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, K Venkatesh. To justify his statements, he said that the amendment of the bill would be beneficial to the farmers of the state. He said that the farmers are struggling to maintain aged cattle and dispose of the dead.
The report said that in February 2021, The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was passed by voice vote by the BJP in the legislative Council. The amended bill expanded the definition of cattle and made the law more stringent with harsher punishment.
