New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday for his meeting with Sunita Vishwanath, a member of an organisation owned by billionaire investor George Soros that is believed to be involved in anti-India activities. During his 10-day visit to the US in May, Rahul Gandhi participated in programs in San Francisco, Washington, DC, and New York.
Irani raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s alleged meeting with Sunita Vishwanath and questioned why he was associating with individuals funded by George Soros, given the known intentions of Soros. To support her allegations, Irani presented a photograph showing Rahul Gandhi sitting with Vishwanath.
The Union Minister also criticised the appearance of the Open Society Foundation’s Global Vice President, Salil Shetty, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, when he was spotted accompanying Rahul Gandhi. Irani expressed distress over the connection with the Islamic Circle of North America and mentioned a man named Tazeem Ansari, who was involved in the registration process for NRI interaction with Rahul Gandhi in New York and has organisational links with Jamaat-e-Islami.
Sunita Viswanath is the co-founder of two organisations, namely Hindus for Human Rights, based in the US, and Abaad: Afghan Women Forward.
During the press conference, Union Minister Smriti Irani also brought attention to various aspects of Sunita Viswanath’s background. Additionally, Irani highlighted a past controversy involving Viswanath when she was appointed as the Religious Life Advisor at Columbia University in 2020.
On social media, allegations have been made suggesting that Sunita Viswanath is a “Soros proxy,” claiming that her organisation for Afghan women received funds from George Soros.
Irani further commented on the Gandhi family, accusing them of attempting to suppress the truth even after acquiring power in Karnataka. She claimed that publicly available information indicates that the meeting in question involved individuals connected to Jamaat and George Soros.
Irani highlighted that despite these allegations, the Congress party has not denied the meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Sunita Vishwanath. She questioned the motives behind Rahul Gandhi’s associations and urged the public to research the matter to understand the concerning links.
