New Delhi: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose is set to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah today in New Delhi. The meeting comes just two days after the panchayat polls in the state, which were marred by incidents of violence. During the meeting, Governor Bose is expected to address the issue of panchayat poll violence and present a comprehensive report based on his on-ground observations.
The panchayat polls in Bengal witnessed several disturbing incidents over the weekend. Repolling is currently underway in 697 booths across five districts of the state. The State Election Commission has reported 10 deaths due to poll-related violence, as confirmed by the police.
Instances of booth capturing, ballot box damage, and assaults on presiding officers were reported from various districts, including Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Malda, South 24 Parganas, North Dinajpur, and Nadia. These incidents have raised concerns and will likely be a significant topic of discussion in the Governor’s meeting with the Home Minister.
