NEW DELHI: A song on millets featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The Grammy Awards are the world’s most prestigious awards in the music industry, presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognize outstanding achievements in music industry.
It has been announced that the song promoting the benefits of millets, in collaboration with Indian-American singer Falu and featuring PM Narendra Modi, has been nominated for a Grammy award 2024 in the Best Global Music Performance category. The song, titled ‘Abundance of Millets’, highlights the importance of millets and was released in June 2023. Mumbai-born singer-lyric writer Falguni Shah, popularly known as Falu, and her husband and singer Gaurav Shah are the voices behind the song.
In the song, the Prime Minister speaks about the significance of adopting millets as part of a healthy lifestyle. Falu mentioned that PM Modi co-authored the song with her and her husband Gaurav Shah. She shared that the idea for the song arose during her meeting with PM Modi in Delhi after winning the Grammy Award in 2022 for her song ‘A Colorful World.’ During their discussion on the transformative power of music, Modi suggested that she compose a song with a message about ending hunger.
‘Abundance of Millets‘ was written to celebrate 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’, declared by the United Nations.
It is noteworthy that the Modi government has launched several schemes to promote millet farming and usage. Millets, being resistant to climatic stress, pests, and diseases, are considered a sustainable food source, crucial for combating hunger in our changing world climate.
The proposal to celebrate the International Year of Millets in 2023 was initiated by India and received endorsement from members of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Governing Bodies and the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly.
