Thiruvananthapuram: NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasised that the Lok Sabha elections are not just a competition but a mission. Speaking to the media, he also said that he has full confidence in this election.
Responding to inquiries regarding Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s recent statement that the slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” belongs to Muslims, Rajeev Chandrasekhar delved into historical context, stating that the first officer who sacrificed his life for Bharat in 1947–48 was a Muslim. It was a man named Brigadier Mohammad Usman. In this country, there are patriots of all religions, including Hindus, Muslims, and Christians.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that amidst all the issues that a government should address during elections, the Pinarayi government is arguing about who chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that it is the duty of the LDF government to explain what development it has brought for the people in the last eight years.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that what people want is development, employment, and investment opportunities. He remarked that the government should attempt to address whether they could provide clean water and find a solution to the sea attack faced by the people in coastal regions. Rajeev Chandrasekhar added that, aside from that, the dispute over who should take credit for the ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogan had no relevance in this context. He suggested that if mere talking sufficed, Pinarayi Vijayan should be prepared to say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’ without hesitation.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar added that the LDF can describe him as anti-communist or anti-Marxist, but he stated that he could not accept Pinarayi Vijayan calling him a communalist.
Furthermore, Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that individuals have the right to seek legal recourse if they perceive failures in investigations conducted by national agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He affirmed that the declaration of elections does not exempt any entity from scrutiny or investigation.
