Ernakulam: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has tightened the noose around the CPI(M) in the Karuvannur Bank Fraud case. Two persons, former MP PK Biju and Thrissur Corporation Councilor PK Shajan, have been issued notices to appear for questioning. Earlier, the ED had also issued a notice to CPI(M) Thrissur District Secretary MM Varghese.
It is reported that more leaders will be questioned in the coming days. Biju is scheduled to appear for questioning on Thursday (April 4) and Shajan on Friday (April 5). It is unclear whether the former MP will appear or not. Biju is being called for questioning after it was found that he had financial transactions with the main accused, Satish Kumar. The ED found that this money belonged to poor people who had been cheated through Karuvannur bank.
Both the councilor and former MP were members of the CPI(M)-appointed investigation committee to probe the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank Fraud. Meanwhile, MM Varghese rejected the ED’s proposal to hand over the investigation report. Further steps may be taken by the investigation team regarding this.
