Malappuram: DCC president of Malappuram district has accused a Minister’s local office of intervention in gaining approval for the boat that capsized yesterday, killing 22 on board. The accusation was leveled by Congress leader VS Joy on his social media platform.
According to the allegations, the boat, which had operated without the approval of the Municipality and the Tourism Department, got approval after the Minister’s local office intervened in it.
The boat was not manufactured according to the boat manual. It was a fishing boat that was modified into a tourism boat by its owner Nassar, who is the brother of a close confidant of the Minister.
The boat, which had no relevant documents or approval from Tourism Department and the Municipality, used to operate only with an approval from the Coastal Department. Even the approval from the Coastal Department was received just one month prior.
After objections were raised against the boat operating without any relevant approval or documents, the Minister’s office quickly intervened in the matter and arranged for an approval, according to VS Joy’s social media post.
