Ernakulam: Minister of State, V Muraleedharan, criticized the police for its lapse in the murder of five-year-old girl at Aluva. He said that the job of the police is not to upload apology post on Facebook, referring to the Kerala Police’s FB post seeking apology for their failure to save the child’s life. Muraleedharan also said that the crime has shocked humanity. He was speaking to the media when he made these remarks against the police handling of the case.
The Minister remarked that that the Aluva police could not prevent open bar, a reference to the situation where people are consuming alcohol in open areas.
He also criticized the police saying that the accused, Afsaq, was successful in confusing the police for one full night even when he was in police custody.
V Muraleedharan also demanded to know who was responsible for the failure in the investigation.
The postmortem report of the dead body of the five-year-old girl revealed that she was sexually assaulted and killed by strangulation. The accused, a migrant worker, Afsaq, was caught by the police on the evening of the child’s disappearance. However, it was only the next day that the body of the victim could be recovered.
The accused was in an inebriated condition when he was arrested. Yet he managed to fool the police by giving false statements. Afsaq had kidnapped the girl and sexually assaulted her before strangulating her to death. She was also attacked physically and her face bore severe injury marks.
Her body was then dumped in a muddy area at the bank of Periyar River near Aluva market. It is said that the area is frequented by anti-social elements.
