Kannur: The CPI(M) State Secretary, MV Govindan, tries to downplay the raids by Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to Karuvannur and Ayanthol cooperativePreview banks’ scams. As usual his response was that the raids were politically motivated.

Govindan also stated that at the tail ends of most of the raids by ED you will find KPCC President, K Sudhakaran, on one end and at the other end you will find Rahul Gandhi. He pointed to this to justify his claim that the raids were politically motivated.

The CPI(M) party secretary said that not only the CPI members but many board members have raised issue in the bank scams. He said that the party will examine the issue seriously.

Sources in the ED say that the main accused in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam, Satish Kumar, has done embezzled Rs.500 crores worth of money.

Meanwhile the ED is continuing its raids in nine places in Thrissur and Ernakulam. This includes the Thrissur Service Cooperative Bank, whose president, MK Kannan, is the CPI(M) State Committee Member.
